2/26/04 CARANGELO Genealogy Update:
The "missing link," VINCENZO CARANGELO (1796), who fathered the "5
Carangelo Great Grandpas," has been discovered -
as well as his father, FABIO CARANGELO (1764) -- in Cerreto-Sannita.
See updated CARANGELO NAMES page.
Beginning with our 6 Great-Grandpas:
Mario, Guisseppe, Francesco, Mario, James, Ferdinand
Welcome! This is the Carangelo family. I'm Lori Carangelo,
born 4/3/45 in New Haven, Connecticut, and now live in at Palm Desert,
California (next to Palm Springs) where I'm a publisher and writer.
I've always been interested in my Italian roots.
My books include several Italian cookbooks, including
ITALIAN TONIGHT!
(traditional & exotic Italian recipes from Italian
restaurant chefs worldwide)....
also
The Ultimate Search Book
(for finding our relatives in all 50 states & 200 countries), and
Chosen Children.
Although I'm the mother of a grown son and a grandmother, I prefer to be
known by my beautiful Italian maiden name, Carangelo which means
dear angel. There is an angel star, Carangelo, located
49 light years from Earth, in constellation Cepheus
(The Crowned King).
So far, it appears that the 6 Carangelo great-grandpas, Mario,
Guisseppe (John), Francesco (Frank), Martin, James, and Ferdinand, are
probably brothers.
But I have yet to find the missing link -- the short Italian fellow
who they called Papa. I have documented Giovanni's birthplace as
being Faicchio - Benevento, Italy, where his sons, Vincenzo and Domenico,
were born also. All 6 brothers must have spent some time in
Faicchio - Benevento, because Mario's son, Gaetano (my grandpa, George),
and Francesco's son, (Pasquale), were both born in Benevento. Gaetano
was born in Cerreto-Sannita, Benevento, and Pasquale in Faicchio - Benevento.
Gaetano's wife, (my Grandma Josephine Idarola), was also born in
Cerreto-Sannita. So photos of Faicchio and Cerreto-Sannita are displayed
on these pages.
The Carangelo families immigrated to America via Ellis Island to
New York City. Descendants of the 6 Great-Grandpas settled in
New Haven, Connecticut. But Mario's granddaughters, Josephine and Olympia,
found husbands in Gloversville, New York. Mario's son, Gennaro, and
his descendants were born in New Jersey and Ferdinand's descendants blazed
a trail to Massachusetts.
Carangelo Genealogy is a work in progress so a link to my e-mail
is provided in case you can help solve any missing links
(See Missing Links listings at the end), or to correct a listing,
or to just to say Hello, cousin!
